DEB NEVERS SOMEONE ELSE

Deb Never is an L.A pop artist without borders; her sound spanning indie-rock, emo-trap and lo-fi electronics. In May last year, she released INTERMISSION, a collection of songs made in quarantine, with 100% of proceeds directed to Direct Relief in an effort to provide direct support to healthcare providers working on the frontline of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Her first release this year, 'Someone Else' has landed alongside a lo-fi music video with a vintage, super 8 quality. Both the song and music video could easily be an extract from the Richard Ayoade-directed film Submarine, soundtracked by Alex Tuner of the Arctic Monkeys. The track contains a snappy drum machine that paves the way for wobbly, chorus-drenched guitar strums, followed by Deb Never's effortless vocals, which sustain perfect amounts of slick huskiness. The production is minimal, with bass only coming in half way through, where the song takes a turn down a more emo path, and the drums pick up pace. 'Someone Else' is confirmation that Deb Never only continues to expand her (already) broad sonic palette. -Ellie Rose-Davies
